“P&G’s Community Matters programme has a strong history of supporting the local communities where the company has offices, distribution centres and plants across the UK & Ireland. A large number of our employees use their skills by volunteering with local schools and charities and P&G encourages and supports them to do this. Teaming up with the News & Mail series is a great opportunity to invite all community groups to obtain recognition for their vital work and the chance of financial support”. P&G’s Community Matters programme has a central focus on the cause of children from birth to 13 years of age and I would particularly like to see a large number of applicants from community groups who can demonstrate that their group can benefit children in this age group”.
Janette Butler Community Matters Manager P&G UK
“At the heart of every community are the hundreds of groups and organisations whose schemes and projects make a huge difference to the lives of the people they help. Often the work of these projects goes unrecognised by those not directly involved with them. Community Matters is our way of highlighting and supporting the work of these unsung projects. Just like P&G, the News & Mail has a long history of supporting our community and we are delighted to be working together on such a worthwhile scheme.”

Shout out for resources!
We recognise that funding is only one of the many resources charities and community groups need to continue their good work. That’s why we are giving each valid applicant the opportunity to take some free promotional space and highlight their requirements for alternative means of support, such as volunteer help or donations of goods and items.

Terms and conditions: Applications must be submitted on a Community Matters application form, either via post or online. Applications must be received by midday, May 2nd 2008. The grants will be awarded in prizes of £250 - £3000. All applicants must be for projects that will benefit our local communities within the News and Mail circulation area. The projects may not be for personal gain or profit, all and any benefits/ profits of the community project must go towards the local community. The winning projects will be those that receive the most votes within their category at the end of the voting stage of the campaign. We are unfortunately not able to accept applications from schools for this campaign. The judges’ decision is final and no written correspondence will be entered into. All winners will be required to attend an award ceremony and photo shoot to collect their cheque after the close of the competition, date TBC.
