Pupils book in for week of inspiration

THE world of books has been celebrated by one Esher school with the help of a children’s author.

Claremont Fan Court Upper Junior School spent a week enjoying books and were visited by popular author Chris D’Lacey.

He enthralled his audiences with amusing anecdotes and writing tips.

Mr D’Lacey is the creator of the bestseller Fire Within series about dragons.

Dr Joan Bernard Bradley, headteacher of the upper school, said: “It was a most inspiring week filled with activities that nurture a love of learning in the children.”

The upper juniors also welcomed back their old friend, the storyteller John Harris.

He returned to inspire and frighten everyone with his spooky tales and it was not long before the children started writing in the same genre.

Other activities included a Year 4 visit to Reading Museum to see the English Bayeux Tapestry, a trip to Esher cinema to watch Roald Dahl’s James and Giant Peach and a visit to Esher Library.
