Turning Japanese

YEAR nine pupils at Heathside School, Weybridge, had a taste of Japan – literally.

The 13 and 14 year olds spent a day absorbing the Japanese culture, complete with food including Sushi.

Head of geography David Harding organised the day after pupils had studied Japan in their geography lessons.

They learnt Japanese Origami (paper folding) and about Kimonos (traditional dress), with some students dressing up.

They also enjoyed sessions on Manga, Japanese cartoon, and ink painting.

Some students took time out from activities to learn about Hiroshima and the atomic bomb dropped there by the Americans in 1945 during World War II.

Others spent time with a Sensei learning karate. Picture: Darren Pepe.
