WITH increasing concerns about the lack of health-conscious behaviour across the country, Elmbridge Borough Council and Esher Church of England High School have joined forces to promote healthy living to students.

Active Health is a new partnership encouraging Year 10 CoPE (Certificate of Personal Education) students to enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

For six weeks the students will embark on a programme of healthy living that will give credit points towards their final CoPE qualification.

They will have the opportunity to take part in various physical activities and healthy lifestyle sessions with coaches delivering, martial arts, archery and golf sessions.

Two classes will have the opportunity to take part in the Active Health programme as part of their of activities every term.

Councillor Barry Cheyne, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: “The Active Health initiative is a ground-breaking way of encouraging students to take part in activities they may not have tried before and to do it in normal study time.”

Denise Collett, PSHE (personal, social and health education) co-ordinator at Esher High, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for so many students to try out various activities.

“Hopefully they will be inspired to lead healthier lifestyles as a result of this programme.

“Without Elmbridge Borough Council’s input the students wouldn’t have been able to experience any of the activities offered.”

The programme has been developed with the school and the coaching sessions are funded by Elmbridge Borough Council’s Active England funding and are provided free of charge.
