Children form a rainbow as they remember former classmate

A WEYBRIDGE school raised money for cancer on Friday with its third annual Rainbow Day, held in memory of a former pupil who succumbed to a rare illness

Each class from St Charles Borromeo Catholic Primary School was assigned to wear a different colour of the rainbow. They then came together in the playground and formed a giant human rainbow to help raise funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Unit in Sutton, as well as the charity Hope and Homes for Children, which helps youngsters who are orphaned, abandoned or vulnerable.

The Parent Teacher Association also entered the spirit of the day by holding a coffee morning in the parish hall.

The day was held in memory of Nicholas Connor, with an estimated £700 raised for the chosen charities.

Headteacher Stephen Holt said: “Rainbow Day is a very special day for our school community.

“It is a happy day to celebrate Nicholas’ life and reinforces many of our core values such as love, hope and thoughtfulness.”
