Just messing about with some boats

MORE than 100 handmade boats battled through the adverse weather conditions as part of Science Week at St George’s College Junior School.

Pupils from nursery to Year 6 celebrated the popular subject with a host of air and water themed events and experiment.

This year saw more than 100 handmade boats fight it out in difficult weather conditions for a place in the final.

The boats were propelled by compressed air, balloons, elastic bands, sails and even explosion and prizes were given out for speed and design.

Head of science at St George’s College Junior School, Sarah Brown said: “National Science Week represents a good opportunity for the pupils to learn about science while having fun at the same time. 

“Each year we have a different theme for Science Week to ensure that we keep imaginations excited and challenge our pupils’ and teachers’ perceptions.”
