Youngsters are cooking up a treat

CHILDREN at Milbourne Lodge Junior School in Esher had a taste of the Orient as they took part in a wok cookery master class.

Youngsters learnt about eastern cuisine when top chef Andrew Walker from school catering company Chartwells led a series of wok cookery demonstrations. Andrew introduced pupils to a range of eastern-style tastes and flavours, demonstrating cookery using traditional ingredients such as Chinese snake beans, noodles and crisp and crunchy pak choi and bok choi.

Children then practised the tricky art of eating with chopsticks as they enjoyed a lunchtime feast of eastern-style dishes.

Andrew said: “Wok cookery is a brilliant way of getting children excited about cooking and showing them that good food is fun and not boring.

“It is a style of cooking using fresh ingredients with the food cooked for a short length of time so it’s healthy and tastes great. Events like this are a fantastic way of introducing children to different tastes and encouraging them to try dishes they may not have eaten before.”
