Football - Walton Casuals lose to leaders

Dover Athletic                   2
Walton Casuals                 0

ONLY Chatham Town have managed to beat runaway-leaders Dover Athletic in Ryman League Division One South this season and Walton Casuals never looked like becoming the second club to do so after being well beaten on the Kent coast on  Saturday.

Dover have been on an excellent run of form lately and  were quickly into their stride with a goal in the third minute.

Laurence Ball’s throw-in on the right found the run of Frannie Collin, who delivered a perfect cross to the edge of the six yard box, where Shaun Welford headed powerfully into the net at the near post.

Collin himself met another cross from the right in the fifth minute but headed narrowly over and Casuals defence did well to survive a goalmouth scramble after Matt Bourne headed goalwards from Hessenthaler’s left wing corner.

After that early barrage, things quietened down in terms of goalmouth action but Casuals struggled to get forward and create chances of their own.

Having seen Craig Bradshaw pull off a fine save in the 66th minute to deny him his second goal of the game, Welford found the net in the 82nd minute with another emphatic header that ended Casuals’ hopes of a late equaliser.
